Ordering the vehicle you want at a fair price can be easy and
relatively painless if you do a bit of research and go into it with the right
attitude. First you to find the right dealer for you. Make sure you do your
homework on the Internet first and configure the car's price at Dealer
Invoice and MSRP so you know what the bottom line is. Many people are getting
good deals through AutoVantage or Autobytel. They can help locate a
dealer that will sell a vehicle as low as a few hundred dollars over Dealer
Invoice. The more informed you are, the better deal you'll make. If a dealer
won't be straight up with you, walk away and find another one. Remember, if
your dealer isn't willing to work with you to get you the car you want, then
they aren't willing to do their job.
You can get any car for invoice at Bruce Glueck Chevrolet

So many people would like to buy the vehicle they really want and
not have to go through a huge hassle with a dealer. We contacted over a dozen
Chevrolet dealers before we found one that was polite, friendly,
knowledgeable, and willing to go through the order process with us. A BIG
thank you to Town and Country Chevrolet in Ashland, Oregon and Herb Wilson,
the Fleet Manager for painlessly helping us get the Camaro SS we wanted at a
price that we all were happy with (Sean Brown was a big help in following through
to make sure we took delivery to our satisfaction!).

We ordered our LS1, 1999 SS (WU8) with a Navy Blue Metallic
exterior (28U), White convertible top (10T), Arctic White leather interior
(102), 6-speed manual transmission (MN6), all SLP optional content (Y2Y)
except for chrome wheels, and all available GM options, including the Monsoon(tm)
audio system.
We were able to sit down with the order guide and list off the option codes
we wanted on our SS while Herb wrote them down. All said and done, it took
less than 30 minutes to order the car and make the deal. We have never left a
dealership feeling this good.

Here's the order and delivery
timeline for our SS:
|
|
May 26, 1998 - we
ordered our SS from Town & Country Chevrolet, Ashland, Or. (thanks to
Herb Wilson, Fleet Manager).
|
|
June 4, 1998 - our SS
is preferenced (that means all parts are available to build the car).
|
|
August 10, 1998 - our
SS is assigned a TPW (Target Production Week).
|
|
August 31, 1998 - a
new TPW is assigned due to the GM strike (the car was finished 8/31, right on
time).
|
|
September 11, 1998 -
our SS gets shipped to SLP Engineering for installation of the hood, spoiler
and Y2Y content.
|
|
September 18, 1998 -
our SS is finished and transported from SLP Engineering back to GM.
|
|
September 24, 1998 -
our SS is loaded by GM onto a rail car in St. Therese, Canada.
|
|
October 5, 1998 - Our
SS arrives at the rail yard.
|
|
October 6, 1998 -
After staking out the rail yard for 2 days, we see our SS finally get
unloaded at the carrier's yard.
|
|
October 7, 1998 - We
follow the car from the distribution yard in Portland, Oregon to our dealer
300 miles away in Ashland, Oregon and drive it away 2 hours after it was
unloaded from the truck.
|
|
If
you would like to track your car obtain the rail car # from your dealer and
track the train's progress according to which railroad company serves your
dealer's distribution yard.
|
|
Here's
how your dealer can get the shipping info: Call 1-888-414-6322. Using the
automated system select the #1 key until you're given the choice of Chevrolet
or Pontiac (1 or 2). Select the appropriate number and give them your dealer
code and order number (have the VIN handy just in case). They should be able
to give the rail car number for tracking on one of the rail road's sites. We
tracked our car via Union
Pacific Railroad.
